02 - The Green Chef
Title
The Green ChefReading Text
Rabbit is hungry. His tummy goes grumble, grumble. He hops around the garden. He looks for a carrot. He looks for a leaf. Rabbit is an animal. Animals must find food to eat. They cannot make food. Rabbit sees a tall Sunflower. The Sunflower stands still. It does not move. "Hello, Sunflower," says Rabbit. "Are you hungry?" "No," says the Sunflower. "I am full." "But you have no mouth!" says Rabbit. "You cannot eat carrots. How do you eat?" The Sunflower smiles. "I do not need a mouth. I am a plant. I have a special kitchen inside my leaves." Plants are different from animals. They are Green Chefs. They cook their own food! They need three things for their recipe: Sunlight (from the sky), Water (from the rain), Air (that we breathe out). The plant mixes the sun, water, and air in its green leaves. This magic is called photosynthesis. It turns them into sugar. The sugar is food for the plant. "Wow," says Rabbit. "I wish I could eat sunlight!"
